Justin Morneau belted a homer and had an RBI double and Kevin Slowey pitched six strong innings before leaving with an injury as the Minnesota Twins recorded a 5-1 triumph over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Delmon Young and Michael Cuddyer added RBI singles for Minnesota (43-35).
Miguel Cabrera recorded an RBI double to open the scoring for Detroit (41-36).
Slowey (8-5) left in the sixth after Magglio Ordonez's comebacker bounced off his right ankle. The right-hander exited the contest after throwing just 81 pitches.
Slowey permitted one run and four hits while striking out four to pick up the win.
Rookie Andy Oliver (0-2) allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings to take the loss.
