Mat Latos matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts and Adrian Gonzalez had a hand in both runs as the San Diego Padres defeated the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Heath Bell struck out four straight Dodgers before getting Matt Kemp on a game-ending fly ball while getting the final five outs for his 39th save as San Diego maintained its one-game lead over San Francisco in the National League West.

Latos (14-5) allowed one run, four hits and didn’t walk anyone while setting a major-league record with his 15th consecutive start of allowing two or fewer runs. Greg Maddux (1993-94) and Mike Scott (1986) shared the old mark.

Gonzalez had a leadoff single in the second inning with a single and moved to third on singles by Miguel Tejada and Chase Headley before scoring on Aaron Cunningham’s sacrifice fly.

Chris Denorfia started the San Diego third inning with a single and scored on Gonzalez’s two-out double against Clayton Kershaw (11-10).

The Dodgers scored in the sixth when Scott Podsednik doubled with two outs and scored on Rafael Furcal’s single to center.

Kershaw allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. He struck out six.
