The Washington Nationals rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 5-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
Adam Kennedy got the big hit for Washington, a two-run single to right off LaTroy Hawkins (0-2) that gave the Nationals a 4-3 lead. The ball got under the glove of first baseman Prince Fielder and scored Willy Taveras and Josh Willingham
Wil Nieves then added an RBI single for the final run.
Matt Capps came on in the ninth to record the final two outs for his second save in two days. Brian Bruney (1-0) allowed an unearned run to get the victory in relief.
Milwaukee had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth on a Gregg Zaun sacrifice fly. Casey McGehee added a solo homer and Corey Hart helped with an RBI single.
Nyjer Morgan had an RBI triple and Willingham blasted a solo homer for the Nationals that tied the score at 2-2 in the sixth.
