Cole Hamels tossed eight shutout innings and Mike Sweeney launched a two-run homer to push the Philadelphia Phillies past the San Diego Padres 5-0 on Sunday.

Hamels (8-10) allowed only four hits while striking out six to bring the Phillies back to .500 on the season away from home.

Jimmy Rollins opened the scoring in the third with an RBI single and then Sweeney’s two-run blast in the seventh extended the lead to 3-0. A sacrifice fly by Rollins in the eighth and a solo shot by Jayson Werth in the ninth capped the offense.

San Diego starter Clayton Richard pitched 7 2/3 strong innings in taking the loss. Richard (12-6) allowed four runs – two earned – also on just four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Adrian Gonzalez had three of the Padres’ four hits.
