Mets 5, Marlins 1: Jason Bay hit his fifth career grand slam during a five-run first inning and visiting New York went on to complete a three-game sweep with its seventh win in eight contests.

New York, which is 5-1 on its nine-game road trip, got to Miami starter Mark Buehrle early, although a dreadful play by right fielder Giancarlo Stanton played a major role in the Mets' big inning. After Ronny Cedeno led off the game with a double to deep center, Stanton looked lost on Justin Turner's fly, overrunning the ball before watching it hit just inside the foul line for a two-base hit.

Cedeno, who only advanced to third as he was preparing to tag up on Turner's fly ball, scored on David Wright's groundout. Buehrle induced a popout by Scott Hairston but walked Ike Davis and hit Kelly Shoppach with a pitch before Bay deposited a 1-0 offering over the wall in right for a 5-0 lead.

Chris Young (5-7) was effective over five innings, allowing one run and five hits en route to his first win in five starts. The towering right-hander walked one and struck out three.

Buehrle (12-12) surrendered five runs and six hits in seven frames but deserved a better fate as his three-game winning streak came to an end. The left-hander, who walked one and struck out three, limited the Mets to three hits over six scoreless innings after the first.

Justin Ruggiano recorded two hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who scored a total of four runs in the series.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stanton made everything hit to him an adventure. After costing his team five runs by misplaying Turner's first-inning double, he had similar problems on fly balls with two outs in the first and seventh but managed to make the catch to end the frames. ... Bay was making his first start since Aug. 25 against Houston. The beleaguered left fielder made three appearances as a defensive replacement and one as a pinch runner between starts. ... The Marlins added two players to the roster, recalling LHP Dan Jennings and RHP Tom Koehler from Triple-A New Orleans. Jennings went 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in 11 relief appearances with Miami earlier this season, while Koehler has yet to make his major-league debut.
