Cubs 5, Mets 3: Top prospect Anthony Rizzo drove in the go-ahead run and recorded a pair of hits in his Chicago debut to help edge visiting New York.

Alfonso Soriano, Luis Valbuena and Darwin Barney each drove in a run during a three-run third inning for the Cubs, who clinched their first home series win of the month.

Rizzo, who joined the team on Tuesday after tearing up the Pacific Coast League, was slotted into the No. 3 spot in the order and singled sharply to shortstop in his first at-bat. Initially ruled an error, the call was overturned later in the game for the Rizzo’s first hit with Chicago.

The Mets grabbed the lead with a pair of runs off Randy Wells in the second, getting RBI singles from Josh Thole and starting pitcher Dillon Gee.

Chicago got those runs back and took the lead in the third. The first two batters reached and moved up on a groundout by Rizzo before Soriano’s groundout pushed the first run across. Valbuena followed with an RBI double and Barney singled to make it 3-2.

New York would tie it on David Wright’s sacrifice fly but Rizzo struck in the fourth. With two outs and runners at the corners, Rizzo lined a 2-2 offering from Gee (5-6) into center field for an RBI and played it into a double with some aggressive base running.

Wells only lasted three innings but Scott Maine (1-1) tossed two hitless frames to grab the win and Carlos Marmol worked the ninth for his fifth save of the season and 100th of his career.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Rizzo, who was acquired from the Padres organization over the winter, hit just .141 in a 49-game tryout with San Diego last season but told reporters before the game, “It will be much different this time.” … New York has lost four in a row to fall into third place in the National League East. … Marmol became the fourth Cubs reliever to reach 100 saves, joining Lee Smith, Bruce Sutter and Randy Myers. ... Mets infielder Daniel Murphy went 1-for-4 and is 4-for-30 over his last 10 games.
