Dodgers 1, Cubs 0: A.J. Ellis drove in the lone run and Stephen Fife turned in 5 1/3 solid frames as visiting Los Angeles completed a four-game sweep of Chicago for its 14th consecutive road victory.

Fife (4-3), making his first start in nearly a month due to shoulder bursitis, scattered seven hits before handing it over to the bullpen. Chris Withrow worked 1 2/3 perfect frames, J.P. Howell tossed a clean eighth and Kenley Jansen struck out the side in the ninth for his 17th save as the Dodgers increased their lead in the National League West to 5 1/2 games over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Ellis came up with two runners on in the second inning and lined a 1-2 curveball from Carlos Villanueva (2-8) into center field to plate Hanley Ramirez, who left the game in the seventh inning with a right shoulder injury. Los Angeles' road winning streak is the longest since the 1957 Cincinnati Reds won 15 straight.

The Cubs put two runners on base in three of the first four frames but could not get a run across. Their best chance came in the sixth, but Withrow entered with the bases loaded and got two quick outs to preserve the shutout.

Villanueva yielded one run on two hits in six innings but remained winless since June 29.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The sweep was the Dodgers’ first of four or more games at Chicago since they took five straight from July 14-18, 1988. … Los Angeles RF Yasiel Puig (left thumb) was held out of the lineup but is expected back when the team opens a four-game series at St. Louis on Monday. … The Cubs placed INF Luis Valbuena (right oblique) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled INF Logan Watkins from Triple-A Iowa. Watkins went 1-for-4 in his major-league debut.
