Padres 6, Dodgers 3:
Pedro Ciriaco tripled in the go-ahead run and put the game away with a two-run homer in the eighth as host San Diego held off Los Angeles.

Chase Headley and Logan Forsythe each recorded an RBI single and Jason Marquis drove in a run to go along with six innings of two-run pitching for the Padres, who have won eight of their last 10 games and pulled back over .500 at 37-36. Nick Vincent (2-0) picked up the win in relief.

Yasiel Puig and A.J. Ellis each homered as the Dodgers fell for the eighth time in their last 11 games. Los Angeles got a leadoff homer from Ellis in the ninth and put the next two runners on before the final rally fell short.

Puig put the Dodgers on top in the first inning with a solo blast to right-center and starter Stephen Fife held the 1-0 edge until the fifth. Second baseman Mark Ellis’ error helped put two runners on with one out before Marquis and Forsythe connected on back-to-back RBI singles.

Los Angeles tied it in the sixth on Juan Uribe’s sacrifice fly but Matt Guerrier (2-3) was ineffective out of the bullpen in the seventh. The right-hander yielded a leadoff ground-rule double to Yasmani Grandal in front of Ciriaco’s tie-breaking triple to left-center, and San Diego tacked on a run on Headley’s single later in the frame to extend the lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Ciriaco, who was picked up last week after being designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox, has hit safely in four straight games for the Padres. His triple and homer represented his first extra-base hits since joining the team. … Fife took a no-hitter into the fourth and ended up charged with two runs - one earned - on four hits in six innings. … Los Angeles recalled INF Elian Herrera and optioned RHP Chris Withrow to Triple-A Albuquerque before the game.
