Mariners 7, Athletics 5: Brad Miller homered twice and had five RBIs and Justin Smoak added a two-run blast as host Seattle routed Oakland.

Miller hit a solo blast in the third inning off Jarrod Parker and belted his first career grand slam just inside the right-field foul pole two innings later. The loss was the third in four games for the Athletics and clinched home-field advantage for Boston throughout the postseason.

Brandon Maurer (5-8) allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Oakland loaded the bases in the eighth but Yoervis Medina struck out Jed Lowrie to end the inning and Danny Farquhar struck out two in the ninth for his 16th save.

Parker (12-8) allowed seven runs for the second time in three starts. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits, including all three Seattle homers.

Oakland began a comeback from a 7-1 deficit with Alberto Callaspo’s run-scoring single in the sixth. Brandon Moss lined a two-run homer to right in the seventh and Callaspo followed with a shot to right-center to pull the Athletics within two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mariners OF Raul Ibanez went 0-for-3 and remains tied with Ted Williams (1960) for most homers (29) by a player aged 41 or older. … Oakland OF Yoenis Cespedes (shoulder) missed the contest and will likely sit out Sunday’s regular-season finale. … Seattle manager Eric Wedge said prior to the game that his decision for not wanting to return was related to his unhappiness with the direction of the franchise.
