Zach Eflin pitched six scoreless innings and Randy Arozarena and Yandy Diaz homered off Carlos Rodon as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays recorded a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
The Rays, who won their third straight game, have gone deep six times while taking the first two games of the three-game series.
Manuel Margot hit an RBI double and Brandon Lowe added a run-scoring single for the Rays, who are 6-3 against the Yankees this season and have scored 18 runs in the last three games.
Eflin (12-6) set a career high for wins, allowing just a single to Aaron Judge in the first inning, a base hit to Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the second and a double to Jake Bauers in the sixth. The right-hander surpassed his previous career-best victory total set in 2018 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
After leaving his previous start because of knee discomfort, Eflin struck out five and walked none on Tuesday. He got nine groundball outs en route to his fourth scoreless outing this season.
Rodon (1-4) struggled in his fifth start since coming back after missing three months with forearm and back injuries. The left-hander allowed four runs and four hits in four innings. He struck out five and walked four.
The last-place Yankees fell to 1-4 since Judge returned from a torn ligament in his right toe Friday. New York also dropped to 7-14 in its past 21 games.
Gleyber Torres hit an RBI double and DJ LeMahieu hit a run-scoring infield single in the ninth inning, when the Yankees collected four of their seven hits on the night.
Margot put Tampa Bay ahead when his double bounced into the left field stands with two outs in the second, driving home Isaac Paredes, who had walked.
Leading off the third, Diaz hit his career-high 15th homer, sending a 2-2 fastball into the right field seats. Three batters later Arozarena broke an 0-for-21 skid with a 415-foot drive into the left field bleachers, his 18th.
Reliever Shawn Armstrong pitched two perfect innings for the Rays before Colin Poche allowed four hits and two runs in the ninth. After LeMahieu hit his infield single and took second on a throwing error by third baseman Paredes, Pete Fairbanks fanned pinch hitter Giancarlo Stanton to secure his 14th save.
