Manny Machado snapped a scoreless tie with a leadoff home run in the seventh inning and rookie Ryan Bergert and five relievers combined on a four-hitter to pace the visiting San Diego Padres to a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday in the decider of a three-game series.

After San Diego managed just one hit in six innings against Freddy Peralta, Machado greeted reliever Rob Zastryzny (1-1) with his 10th homer, sending a 3-2 pitch 425 feet to left-center.

The Brewers threatened in the bottom half with a walk and a hit batter, but Wandy Peralta relieved Sean Reynolds and got Brice Turang on an inning-ending liner to short.

Two-out singles in the eighth by William Contreras and Sal Frelick and a stolen base gave the Brewers runners at second and third, but Jason Adam fanned Andruw Monasterio.

Robert Suarez allowed a two-out single in a scoreless ninth for his major league-leading 21st save in 23 opportunities.

In addition to the four hits, the Brewers drew six walks and had a hit batter, but stranded 10 runners.

Bergert took a one-hitter into the sixth before issuing a pair of one-out walks. Yuki Matsui (2-1) entered and loaded the bases with a two-out walk, but then struck out Frelick.

Freddy Peralta held the Padres hitless until Tyler Wade's leadoff single in the sixth. Wade advanced on a sacrifice, but then was tagged out at third on a fielder's choice grounder when he slid past the bag.

Bergert didn't allow a hit until the fifth. Frelick walked with one out and Rhys Hoskins singled to left-center, sending Frelick to third. Bergert struck out Jake Bauers looking, then got Caleb Durbin on a groundout to third.

Bergert allowed just one baserunner through the first four innings, a one-out walk in the third to Durbin, who was doubled off first on a lineout.

Peralta walked two of the first three Padres hitters on a total of 18 pitches to that point, but then got an inning-ending double play. He then retired the next 12 hitters.
