Jeremy Hazell scored 28 points to lead Seton Hall past Cornell 92-68, Saturday in Newark, N.J.
The Pirates raced out to a 15-point halftime lead and pulled away in the second half. Hazell led four Pirates in double figures.
Both teams are playing for first-year coaches. Kevin Willard, a former assistant for Rick Pitino, saw his team bounce back from an opening loss at Temple to pick up his first win.
.
Cornell's Bill Courtney has the difficult task of following Steve Donahue, who left for Boston College after taking the Big Red on an impressive run to the Sweet 16 last season.
Aaron Osgood led Cornell with 19 points, but the Big Red couldn't compete on the boards with the bigger Pirates and hit only 5-of-24 3-point attempts.
Cornell played without leading returning scorer Chris Wroblewski, who has missed the first two games with an ankle injury.
The Pirates' tough early schedule continues Friday, when they head to the Virgin Islands for the 2010 Paradise Jam. Seton Hall opens the tournament against Alabama.
The Big Red (1-1) will try to bounce back against Delaware on Wednesday.
