Junior guard Faisal Aden scored a game-high 26 points as Washington State overpowered Idaho 88-71 at Pullman, Wash., on Tuesday night.
Klay Thompson added 23 points, nine assists and two steals for the Cougars (2-0), who jumped to a 17-2 lead and never trailed.
The Vandals closed the gap to 43-38 at halftime, and were behind 49-47 after Luiz Toledo's free throw with 16:10 left, but the Cougars went on a 17-0 run.
Jeff Ledbetter scored a team-high 18 points, while Toledo scored 13 for the Vandals (1-1).
Washington State was 34 for 59 from the field (57.6 percent).
Tuesday's game marked the 266th meeting as the Cougars hold a 159-107 edge. At 106 years, it is the sixth longest continuous series in Division I. Yale's series with Princeton and Columbia are the longest at 110 years apiece.
The Cougars next play Nov. 23 when they host Portland.
