No. 22 San Diego State had little trouble running its record to 5-0, defeating host Miami (Ohio), 77-56, on Tuesday night.
The win is the fourth road victory in nine days for the Aztecs, who are ranked for the first time in school history.
The RedHawks (2-3) trailed by only five at halftime, but were outscored 38-22 in the final 20 minutes.
San Diego State imposed its will with strength on the boards and solid shooting from the field. Kawhi Leonard, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward, led the Aztecs will 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. He also scored 12 points and was one of four Aztecs in double figures.
D.J. Gay led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He was 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc. Malcolm Thomas scored 16 and James Rahon scored 15 as San Diego State shot 50 percent from the field.
Miami struggled from the field, connecting on 37 percent of its shots. Nick Winbush led the RedHawks with 12 points.
