South Carolina rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit, and behind the late game heroics of Bruce Ellington and Ramon Galloway knocked off Western Kentucky 87-85 in double overtime on Saturday night in Bowling Green, Ky.
Ellington, who finished with 20 points, struggled in the first half, but brought the Gamecocks back at the end of regulation by hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the final 37 seconds to wipe out a 66-61 deficit and send the game into overtime.
In the first extra session, South Carolina (4-1) could not hold a couple of four-point leads, and the game went into a second overtime. Galloway scored seven of his team-high 22 points in the second overtime, and all but one of his points after halftime.
Western Kentucky (3-3), which dropped its second straight, was led by Juan Pattillo’s game-highs of 24 points and 18 rebounds. Steffphon Pettigrew had 16 points and 12 boards for the Hilltoppers.
