J.T. Terrell hit a game-winning 3-pointer with five seconds left and finished with 32 points as Wake Forest came from behind to beat Iowa, 76-73, in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday. C.J. Harris added 12 points and Ari Stewart finished with 10 for the Deamon Decons (4-3), who outscored the Hawkeyes (3-4) 49-34 in the second half.
Iowa dominated the first half, taking a 39-27 lead into the break while shooting 47 percent (17-of-36) from the floor. But the second half was a much different story, as Wake Forest burst out of the locker room with a 21-4 run to grab the lead, 48-43. Terrell had 11 points during the spurt, draining three 3-pointers.
Wake Forest held that edge until the Hawkeyes put together a 7-0 run to take the lead back 71-70 on Eric May’s three-point play with 3:19 left. C.J. Harris knotted at 73-73 when he hit a free throw for Wake Forest with 2:34 to play and it stayed that way until Terrell nailed the game-winner.
The win marked the first win for the Demon Deacons against a major-conference opponent after suffering losses to mid-majors Stetson, Virginia Commonwealth and Winthrop earlier this month.
