Northern Iowa’s balance and home court prowess was a little too much for Iowa State.
All five Northern Iowa starters scored in double figures and the Panthers extended one of the country’s longest homecourt winning streaks with a 60-54 victory over Iowa State on Wednesday.
Northern Iowa (3-2) entered Wednesday with a 17-game home court winning streak, good for sixth-longest in the country.
Anthony James, Johnny Moran and Jake Koch each scored 12 points, and Kwadzo Ahelegbe and Lucas O’Rear added 10 for the Panthers, who got all but four points from their starters.
The Cyclones (6-1) started 6-0 for the second straight year, but were playing their first true road game of the season and fell to the Panthers for the fourth time in the last five meetings.
Diante Garrett scored 17 points and Jake Anderson added 14 points for Iowa State, including a 3-pointer with a little over a minute to play that tied the game 52-52.
Koch hit a bucket for the Panthers, and Ahelegbe added two free throws after a Cyclones turnover to make it 56-52, and Northern Iowa held on from there.
