After suffering back-to-back close losses, Iowa State made sure Monday’s game against Southeast Missouri State did not come down to the wire.
Diante Garrett scored 20 points and the Cyclones (7-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with an 85-58 victory over the Redhawks.
Garrett scored 15 points in the first half to help Iowa State take a 45-30 lead. The Cyclones shot 59 percent (17-of-29) over the opening 20 minutes.
Melvin Ejim scored 18 points, including 10 in the first half, Jake Darion added 14 and Scott Christopherson added 13 for Iowa State.
Iowa State kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring SE Missouri State, 40-28. Ejim and Bubu Palo each scored eight points in the second half for the Cyclones.
Marcus Brister and Anthony Allison both scored 11 points for Southeast Missouri State (0-9, 0-2 OVC), which shot just 32 percent (19-of-59) from the field.
The Redhawks play four of their next five games on the road and have already played five road games without a win.
