Jared Sullinger barely played half the game, but he was the sparkplug as Ohio State used balanced scoring to cruise past Western Carolina, 85-60, Sunday at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Sullinger scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in 22 minutes of play, leading a group of five Buckeye scorers in double figures as Ohio State (8-0) remained undefeated.
The Buckeyes had no problem blasting out of the starting gate, going up 13-2 in the first seven minutes in a run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Jon Diebler and Deshaun Thomas. Ohio State led 42-25 at halftime and was never threatened the rest of the way.
Buford, Thomas and Dallas Lauderdale all scored 13 points for the Buckeyes, and Buford and Lauderdale both grabbed six rebounds. Buford also had five assists. Diebler ended up with 10 points, three assists and three steals.
Mike Williams was 4-of-6 from 3-point range for Western Carolina (4-8). He ended up with 22 points and five assists.
