A knee injury to Demontez Stitt wasn’t enough to derail Clemson in Friday’s matchup of Tigers.
Clemson beat visiting Savannah State 61-40 at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Jerai Grant provided a team-high 15 points for Clemson (6-4), which was playing with just eight scholarship players and just three guards available.
Tanner Smith added 11 points and Milton Jennings and Andre Young had 10 apiece as Clemson snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-0 all-time against Savannah State.
Stitt was leading Clemson in scoring with 13.8 points per game before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday. He is expected to miss up to two weeks after having scored in double digits his last eight games.
Jovonni Shuler led Savannah State (1-12) with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-18 shooting. The rest of the team combined to shoot 4 of 30.
Clemson returns to the court Sunday against UNC-Greensboro, a game Stitt will likely also miss.
