Tim Abromaitis posted his fourth consecutive 20-point game to lead Notre Dame to an easy Big East win on Wednesday.
The Fighting Irish blasted Georgetown 69-55 at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Ind. They trailed just 24 seconds the entire game, but the Hoyas still lead the series 14-13.
Notre Dame (12-1, 1-0) earns its first win in what should be a difficult Big East Conference and are now on a four-game win streak. The No. 15 Irish didn’t need much help from its bench. Eric Atkins and Jack Cooley were the only players to come off the bench, and they combined for 22 minutes and two points.
The win came down to shutting down Georgetown’s big trio of guards. Chris Wright, Jason Clark and Austin Freeman combined for just 32 points with a game-high 21 from Freeman. They have averaged 46.3 this season for No. 9 Georgetown (11-2, 0-1).
Abromaitis’ 20 points were a team-high for Notre Dame. Ben Hansbrough, Tyrone Nash and Scott Martin each posted double-digits.
