A pair of 10-point spurts in the second half propelled No. 21 Minnesota to a 67-63 home win over Indiana Tuesday evening.
The Golden Gophers (12-3, 1-2 Big Ten) trailed by six at halftime but scored 10 straight to pull ahead 40-38 with 13:43 remaining. The lead changed hands three more times before another 10-0 run put Minnesota up 59-51 at the 5:15 mark.
Indiana (9-7, 0-3) got within 65-63 on a 3-pointer by Verdell Jones with 7.2 seconds to go, but Blake Hoffarber hit a pair of free throws to seal the outcome.
Hoffarber led all scorers with 16 points for Minnesota, while Al Nolen added 14. Jones and Victor Oladipo each scored 13 points for the Hoosiers, who came into the game ranked among the nation's leaders in field-goal percentage but were held to 23-of-61 shooting (37.7 percent) Tuesday.
