Rotnei Clarke is Arkansas’ clutch player. He’s the guy John Pelphrey can count on to make plays down the stretch.
And Clarke did it for the Razorbacks on Saturday, draining a go-ahead jumper with 55 seconds left, the pivotal play in what became a 70-65 victory over Alabama on Saturday afternoon. Arkansas improved to 11-0 at home this season.
Trailing 66-65, Clarke hit a jumper off of an inbounds pass play, and then the Razorbacks made their final four free throws to seal the victory. Clarke finished with 13 points, while Marshawn Powell led Arkansas with 17 points. Powell gave Arkansas (12-4, 2-1 SEC) its first lead, 64-63, with a powerful dunk late in the second half.
Alabama (10-7, 2-1 SEC), which won its first two SEC games, led by 10 points in the first half, but made only 2 of 10 3-pointers and had two turnovers in the final 30 seconds. Trevor Releford led the Crimson Tide with 17 points, while JaMychal Green added 16.
