Marshall went on a 31-3 run bridging the first and second halves and held on for a 75-71 victory over in-state rival West Virginia on Wednesday in Charleston, W. Va.
The Thundering Herd (13-5) trailed by five with 8:38 remaining in the first half before closing with a 22-3 run to take a 35-21 lead into the locker room. Marshall then scored the first nine points of the second half to extend the lead to 23.
West Virginia put together a furious rally midway through the second half and ultimately got within 72-69 with 30 seconds left before running out of gas.
Damier Pitts led Marshall with 25 points and DeAndre Kane added 18.
Casey Mitchell and John Flowers scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the Mountaineers (12-5). They scored a combined 29 points in the second-half comeback.
