Washington State used a 10-1 run after halftime to upset No. 17 Washington 87-80 Sunday night at the Wallis Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum in Pullman, Wash.
Four Washington State (15-6, 5-4 Pac-10) players scored in double figures, led by Klay Thompson’s 25 points, as the Cougars snapped a four-game losing streak to their cross-state rival. Washington State was outrebounded 43-25, but made up for it with pesky defense, forcing Washington to commit 23 turnovers.
The Cougars took a two-point halftime lead, then started the second half hot, extending the gap to 55-44 with 15:39 left.
Washington couldn’t overcome an uncharacteristically poor shooting night. Isaiah Thomas led the Huskies with 19 points, despite shooting three for 14 from the field and not making his first field goal until 6:25 remained in the second half.
Washington (15-5, 7-2 Pac-10) shot just 37 percent from the field, and had its three-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Washington State’s Reggie Moore added a season-high 18 points for the Cougars, who are 2-2 against ranked opponents this season.
