Lavoy Allen collected 19 points and 16 rebounds as No. 24 Temple overcame a poor first half to take out host George Washington, 57-41, on Saturday.
Khalif Wyatt added 14 points off the bench for the Owls (22-6, 12-2 Atlantic 10), who have won nine straight conference games and remain in second place behind Xavier with two games left in the regular season.
Temple struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 24.2 percent (8 of 33). The Colonials led by as much as 22-10 before the Owls came back, ending the period with a 13-4 surge to pull within three points, 26-23 at the break. Allen scored 10 points and added seven rebounds to help keep Temple close.
The Owls dominated the second half, using a 10-0 burst early to grab the lead and then fighting off a last charge by George Washington before closing with a 19-2 run to turn it into an easy victory.
Dwayne Smith recorded 12 points and seven rebounds for the Colonials (15-13, 8-6).
