Jeff Allen had 18 points and 15 rebounds, and host Virginia Tech outscored No. 1 Duke 14-6 in the final 5:14 to pull off a 64-60 upset on Saturday.
Terrell Bell and Erick Green scored 12 points apiece for Virginia Tech (19-8, 9-5 ACC), which tied the game at 55 on Bell’s 3-pointer with 4:42 left. Malcolm Delaney’s steal with five seconds left sealed the win.
Kyle Singler had 22 points and 12 rebounds for Duke (26-3, 12-2), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped. The Blue Devils last lost on Jan. 30 at St. John’s.
Nolan Smith had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Devils, who were 4 for 20 from 3-point range.
Delaney, who had averaged 22.5 points in his previous six games, was held to 11 points, while Victor Davila had 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Hokies outrebounded Duke 42-35.
It was the second time this season Duke lost as the No. 1 team - it fell to Florida State 66-61 on Jan. 12.
