Darius Johnson-Odom led five players in double figures with 17 points as Marquette rolled over visiting Providence 86-62 Sunday.
Chris Otule added 16 points and Jimmy Butler had 15 for Marquette (18-11, 9-7 Big East), which won its third straight and improved hopes of landing an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Jae Crowder chipped in with 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Junior Cadougan had 10 points and 10 assists for the Golden Eagles, who out-rebounded Providence, 46-29.
Marshon Brooks, the nation’s second leading scorer at 25.4 per game, had 17 points and Gerard Coleman 16 for Providence (14-15, 3-13), which lost its sixth straight game.
Marquette scored the game’s first 10 points and led by as much as 14 before settling for a 40-27 halftime lead. Otule had 12 points in the first half and Butler eight for the Golden Eagles. Brooks had nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, but the Friars shot 29.4 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
