Freshman Brandon Knight made his only basket count, dropping in a right-handed runner with two seconds left to give Kentucky to a 59-57 win over Princeton in the second round of the East Regional at the St. Pete Times Forum.
The game was tied at 57-57 after Princeton's Dan Mavraides made a jump shot with 34 seconds remaining. Kentucky then decided to play for one shot, with Knight running the clock down before attacking the basket and laying in the winner. It was his first successful field goal in eight attempts.
Princeton called timeout, but was unable to get off a final shot.
Kentucky (26-8) was led by Darius Miller with 17 points and Josh Harrellson with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Terrence Jones added 10 points for the Wildcats. Princeton (25-7) got 14 points from Mavraides, 13 from Doug Davis, 12 from Kareem Maddox and 11 and seven rebounds from Ian Hummer.
Princeton led 44-39 in the second half before Kentucky went on a 14-4 run to take the lead. But the No. 10-ranked Wildcats could never shake the pesky, disciplined Tigers.
Kentucky advances to play West Virginia in the third round on Saturday.
