Khalid Mutakabbir's 3-pointer with 7.6 seconds remaining gave Presbyterian a stunning 56-54 road victory over No. 20 Cincinnati on Saturday.
Trailing 49-34 with 8:30 remaining the game, the Blue Hose scored 11 consecutive points to make it a four-point game with 5:05 to play. Jay Reynolds' three-point play with 38 seconds remaining cut the lead to 54-53.
After the Bearcats missed a free throw and a shot from the field, Mutakabbir hit his 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Blue Hose the lead. Cincinnati called timeout, but Kelvin Gaines missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key and time ran out.
Mutakabbir led the Blue Hose (3-2) with 25 points. Al'Lonzo Coleman added 12. Sean Kilpatrick paced Cincinnati (2-1) with 19 points while Yancy Gates scored 17.
Presbyterian, which fell No. 6 Duke 96-55 on Nov. 12, led most of the first half. The Bearcats missed 10 of their first 11 shots and trailed 12-3 with 11:09 remaining in the first half. Cincinnati finally woke up and finished the half on a 23-7 run to take a 26-19 lead into the locker room.
The poorly played first half on both sides featured statistical oddities. No bench player from either team scored in the first half, and Presbyterian didn't attempt a free throw in the first 20 minutes.
