Kenny Boynton tied a career high with six 3-pointers and No. 9 Florida used strong shooting from beyond the arc to beat Wright State 78-65 in Tampa, Fla., on Monday.
The Gators (3-1) never could totally take control against the Raiders (2-2), but built a comfortable lead late in the first half and were not seriously threatened.
The Gators, who came in tied for 29th in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage (43.2 percent), finished 12-of-27 (44.4 percent) from 3-point range. Boynton scored 22 points, hitting 6-of-9 3-point attempts to lead Florida.
Freshman Brad Beal also scored 22 points for the Gators.
Wright State pulled within 30-22 on A.J. Pacher’s 3-pointer with 5:55 left. Florida then closed the half with a 14-7 run, taking a 44-29 lead at halftime. Mike Rosario, Erving Walker and Erik Murphy each hit a 3-pointer during the run.
Julius Mays led the Raiders with 21 points.
