A pair of high-profile freshmen enjoyed productive debuts, helping Louisiana State roll to a 96-74 win over Nicholls State in the season opener for both teams.
LSU avenged last year’s loss to Nicholls State, which became the first Louisiana school to defeat LSU since 1988.
Freshmen Anthony Hickey and Johnny O’Bryant III were among six players who scored in double figures for LSU. Hickey, a 5-10 guard, scored 14 points and had five assists, both team highs. O’Bryant scored 12 points and snagged a team-best eight rebounds.
LSU also got 12 points from Andre Stringer and Turner Ralston, 11 from Justin Hamilton and 10 from Storm Warren.
Nicholls State was led by Trevon Lewis, who scored 12 points, and Chris Talkington, who had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.
LSU trailed 16-12 before it scored 10 unanswered points en route to a 51-40 halftime lead.
