Patric Young scored a career-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds as No. 12 Florida needed overtime to dodge visiting Arizona’s upset bid 78-72 on Wednesday.

The Gators (6-2) suffered through a miserable shooting night, but found just enough offense in overtime. Will Yeguete’s basket with 3:03 to go in overtime gave Florida the lead for good 71-69. Erving Walker hit two free throws with 2:03 left,and another Walker free throw with 1:23 left pushed the lead to 74-69.

Young’s basket with 14.2 seconds left in regulation gave the Gators a 64-63 advantage. Arizona (6-3) turned the ball over with 8.6 seconds left, and Erving Walker hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds to go, making it 66-63. Arizona’s Solomon Hill was fouled by Casey Prather while attempting a 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left. Hill made all three free throws to tie the game at 66 and force overtime.

The Gators came in ranked second in the nation in scoring (87.6), but shot only 41.2 percent from the field and 15-for-32 from the free-throw line.

Florida’s Kenny Boynton, the Gators leading scorer and third in the SEC at 19.0 points, went scoreless until hitting a 3-pointer with 5:56 to go in regulation. He finished with nine points.

Young finished 12-for-15 from the field while Walker scored 14 points on 3-for-17 shooting, but made 7-for-9 free-throw attempts.

Arizona led by seven points with seven minutes left in regulation. Jesse Perry scored a career-high 23 points for the Wildcats, who played without freshman guard Josiah Turner. He was suspended for a violation of team rules.
