Donte Poole matched a career-high with 22 points and No. 18 Murray State made 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:27 on Wednesday to hold off Eastern Kentucky 76-67 in an Ohio Valley Conference match-up. The win was the 15th straight for the Racers (15-0, 3-0 OVC) and puts them one win away from tying the all-time school best 16-0 start back in 1935-36.
Murray State raced to a 15-point first half lead and led by 14 with 15 minutes remaining before Eastern Kentucky (9-7, 3-1 OVC) started chipping away, eventually climbing to within one at 55-54 with 4:49 left. The Racers, who have won 14 in a row at home dating back to last season, were clinging to a 65-62 lead before connecting on all but one of their free throws down the stretch.
Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel added 16 points apiece for Murray State, while Stacy Wilson came off the bench to add 13. Canaan became the 38th player in Murray State history to surpass the 1,000-point mark, and Daniel scored 12 of his season-high 16 in the second half.
Jaron Jones led the Colonels with a game-high 23 points and D'Mitri Riggs added 16.
