Perry Jones III had a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds as No. 4 Baylor kept its unbeaten season alive with a 75-73 comeback win over 18th-ranked Kansas State Tuesday at Bramlage Coliseum.
Baylor (16-0, 3-0 Big 12), whose current 16-game win streak is the longest in school history, took a two-point lead with 20 seconds left after a Jones free throw. Then, the Bears prevented Kansas State from getting a shot off on its final possession.
Brady Heslip and Quincy Acy each had 13 points and Pierre Jackson added 10 points and 11 assists for the Bears, one of only three remaining unbeaten teams in the country along with Syracuse and Murray State.
Baylor trailed 71-67 with 4:13 left after Kansas State’s Jordan Henriquez made a pair of free throws. But the Bears responded with a 7-0 run to retake the lead at 74-71.
After the Wildcats (12-3, 1-2 Big 12) cut the deficit to one on Rodney McGruder’s layup, Heslip missed a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left. But Jones came down with the offensive rebound and was fouled. He then made one of two free throws.
McGruder had a career-high 30 points for Kansas State, which lost for the first time in eight games at Bramlage Coliseum. Henriquez, a junior center, added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Kansas State was attempting to defeat a pair of top-10 teams in consecutive games for the first time in school history. The Wildcats were also hoping to knock off an unbeaten opponent for the second time in four days following their 75-59 victory over previously undefeated Missouri on Saturday.
But the Bears, who trailed 33-31 at the half, came up big in the second half. They turned a seven-point deficit into an eight-point lead, then held off the Wildcats down the stretch.
Baylor is one of three remaining undefeated teams in the Big 12, along with Iowa State and Kansas.
