Shabazz Napier led the way with 16 points and five assists as No. 16 Connecticut used a strong second half to blow past host Notre Dame, 67-53, on Saturday.
Andre Drummond collected 10 points and 13 rebounds and Alex Oriakhi added 12 and seven for the Huskies (14-3, 4-2 Big East), who controlled the paint.
Notre Dame (11-7, 3-2) had its 29-game home winning streak snapped. The Fighting Irish had a 45-game home winning streak ended by Connecticut in 2009.
Notre Dame held a 25-24 lead at the half and had it tied 29-29 early in the second when the Huskies began to assert themselves. Oriakhi’s jumper 3:54 into the half sparked a 13-4 burst to put Connecticut in control.
A short run for the Fighting Irish brought them back to within 42-38 with 9:23 remaining, but the Huskies locked down defensively. Notre Dame would not score for over five minutes as Connecticut brought the lead back over double digits and coasted to the finish.
Eric Atkins scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half for Notre Dame.
The Huskies were without freshman guard Ryan Boatright, who sat out due to eligibility concerns.
