Dee Bost scored 24 points as No. 15 Mississippi State rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and ended host Vanderbilt’s eight-game winning streak with a 78-77 victory in overtime Saturday.
Bost scored the go-ahead basket with 53 seconds left in overtime. Arnett Moultrie had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs (16-4, 3-2 SEC).
After Vanderbilt’s Brad Tinsley missed a short jumper in the lane with five seconds remaining, Moultrie got the rebound and was fouled, but missed the front end of a one-and-one with 2.8 seconds remaining.
Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins, the SEC’s leading scorer, missed a 3-pointer from the right wing at the buzzer.
The Bulldogs trailed by 13 points late in the first half and 39-28 at intermission before they scored 14 unanswered points in the first three minutes of the second half, with Rodney Hood’s 3-pointer giving them a 42-39 lead.
Down 68-62 with 1:57 to play, Vanderbilt (14-5, 4-1) scored the final six points of regulation. Jenkins’ 3-pointer with 32 seconds left tied the game at 68.
Jenkins led the Commodores with 21 points while Festus Ezeli had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
