Jamaal Franklin had 14 points and 10 rebounds as No. 16 San Diego State extended its winning streak to 10 with a 57-44 victory over visiting Air Force on Saturday.
Chase Tapley added 16 points for San Diego State (17-2, 3-0 Mountain West), which won its eighth straight against the Falcons (11-6, 1-2).
The Aztecs, who are off to the second-best start in school history, haven’t lost to an unranked opponent in 57 games.
Air Force fell to 1-73 all-time against ranked opponents despite Taylor Broekhuis’ 16 points and seven rebounds. Mike Fitzgerald added 14 points for the Falcons, who were 1 for 18 from 3-point range.
After two impressive wins over UNLV and New Mexico to open conference play, San Diego State struggled to pull away from the Falcons. The Aztecs led by only five with 8:21 left.
The Aztecs held Air Force scoreless for the next three minutes and grabbed a nine-point lead on Tapley’s layup with 1:32 to play.
The Aztecs outrebounded Air Force 31-23 and held the Falcons to 17 of 49 (34.7 percent) from the field. San Diego State’s winning streak is the third-longest in school history.
