WEST VIRGINIA 87, PROVIDENCE 84: Darryl Bryant scored 32 points including a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left in overtime that gave visiting West Virginia an 87-84 victory over Providence.
Deniz Kilicli had four of his career-high 22 points in overtime and set a perfect screen for Bryant to drain his fifth 3-pointer of the game for the win.
Kevin Jones added 20 points for West Virginia (16-8, 6-5 Big East), which snapped a three-game losing streak. It was the ninth straight game with 20 points or more for Jones.
Gerard Coleman scored a career-high 30 points for Providence (13-11, 2-9 Big East), but missed one of two free throws with 10.9 seconds left in overtime. Vincent Council missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Friars.
Providence made just four of eight from the free-throw line in the final 2:57 of regulation, allowing West Virginia to fight back to tie it at 76 on Bryant’s driving layup with four seconds remaining. The Mountaineers trailed by as many as 10 in the second half.
LaDontae Henton had 17 points and Council added 16 points and nine assists for Providence, which has lost eight straight to West Virginia.
Providence led by as many as 15 points in the opening 20 minutes, but settled for a 42-36 halftime lead. Bryce Cotton and Coleman combined for 23 points and 9-for-11 shooting in the first half for the Friars. Providence shot 63 percent before halftime.
