Julien Lewis came off the bench to score 19 points and the seventh-seeded Longhorns pulled away from the 10th-seeded Horned Frogs in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament at Kansas City.

Myck Kabongo finished with 16 points, six assists and four rebounds for Texas (16-16), which will play No. 2 seed Kansas State in Thursday's quarterfinals. Sheldon McClellan added 12 points also coming off the bench.

TCU (11-21) was led by Connell Crossland with 11 points and Charles Hill Jr. with 10. The Horned Frogs kept things close hitting six of their first 12 attempts from 3-point range but finished the game with nine straight misses from beyond the arc.

Texas led by as much as nine in the first half but the Horned Frogs kept knocking down 3-pointers and trimmed the lead to 28-26 at the half. TCU held a 44-43 lead early in the second half before the Longhorns went on a game-changing 11-2 run capped by a Lewis 3-pointer.

TCU shot just 32.7 percent. Connor Lammert had eight points for the Longhorns, who shot 51.3 percent.

GAME NOTEBOOK: TCU G Nate Butler Lind scored nine points before fouling out with five minutes left. ...Texas was 25-for-32 from the free-throw line. ...With the win, Texas became eligible for the NIT.
