Matt Coleman II scored 14 points and the Texas defense did its part and more as the Longhorns waylaid visiting Kansas State 64-50 on Saturday in Big 12 Conference play in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns, who snapped a two-game losing streak, led by four points at the break and ran off the first 12 points during the first seven minutes of the second half to boost their lead to 43-27. Texas had its lead up to 50-32 after jumper by Coleman with 10:03 to play.

Kansas State finally got hot late in the game, hitting four straight baskets to climb within 58-46, but it was far too little, too late.

Courtney Ramey scored 11 points and Jase Febres added 10 for Texas (11-4, 1-2 in Big 12). Longhorns center Jericho Sims had eight points and eight rebounds, breaking a streak of three straight games with double-doubles.

The Longhorns outshot Kansas State 49 percent to 37 percent and hit 10 of 23 3-pointers in the game. The Wildcats stayed within shouting distance for a while thanks to 13 offensive rebounds and 15 fast-break points, but that wasn't nearly enough.

Cartier Diarra led the Wildcats with 14 points, while DaJuan Gordon scored nine points in the loss. Kansas State (7-8, 0-3) has lost five of its past six games.

Kamaka Hepa led the Longhorns with eight points over the first 20 minutes, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer that gave Texas a 31-27 halftime lead.

Diarra paced the Wildcats with nine points in the half and the Kansas State defense forced 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes that it converted into 16 points.

Kansas State didn't get to Austin until mid-morning on Saturday because its charter flight on Friday from Manhattan, Kan., was canceled due to a sudden burst of snow and ice.
