Six Wofford players scored in double figures as the No. 22 Terriers opened Southern Conference Tournament play by trouncing Virginia Military Institute 99-72 in the quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in Asheville, N.C.

Nathan Hoover led the way with 17 points, while Chevez Goodwin notched 14, Keve Aluma added 12 and Cameron Jackson, Fletcher Magee and Storm Murphy all had 11.

Magee, a senior guard, was named Southern Conference Player of the Year earlier in the week. He was only 4-for-11 shooting from the field.

Wofford (27-4, 18-0), which holds an 18-game winning streak, plays East Tennessee State in Sunday's semifinals.

VMI guard Bubba Parham, the conference's leading scorer, notched 14 of his 22 points in the first half. He made 8 of 20 shots from the field.

Eighth-seeded VMI (11-21, 4-14) played less than 20 hours earlier when it eliminated Western Carolina as Parham poured in 41 points.

Wofford, after completing an unbeaten march through league foes during the regular season, was ready for the postseason. The Terriers scored the game's first 10 points.

The margin grew to 35-16 slightly more than 10 minutes into the game.

Parham scored seven of VMI's first 21 points, but the Keydets trailed 40-21 at the time. Wofford was shooting 61.5 percent from the field at that juncture.

VMI closed to within 48-37 at halftime despite its 3-for-12 shooting from 3-point range. Parham drained a 3-pointer for the first points of the second half.

Less than four minutes later, Wofford had built its lead to 63-44.

All five Wofford starters, plus Goodwin, reached double-digit point marks with more than nine minutes remaining.

The Keydets finished 8-for-29 on 3-point attempts, with Parham accounting for half of the successful launches.

Jackson had a team-high eight rebounds as Wofford finished with a 44-31 edge on the boards.

Wofford won two regular-season meetings with VMI by a total of 25 points.
