Bryce Aiken hit a crucial 3-pointer and a pair of free throws over the game's final 33 seconds as No. 23 Seton Hall outlasted No. 7 Texas 64-60 on Thursday in a Big East-Big 12 Battle contest in Newark, N.J.

The game was tied at halftime and went back and forth in the second half before the Pirates took a 58-56 lead on Jared Rhoden's jumper with 5:29 remaining. Texas missed eight shots in a row before Timmy Allen's layup with 52 seconds left pulled the Longhorns to within a point.

Aiken then canned his only 3-pointer of the night with 33 seconds remaining to put Seton Hall up by four before another layup by Allen pulled Texas to within 62-60 with 24 seconds to go. Aiken netted two free throws with 14 seconds to play, and that was enough to get the Pirates to the finish line.

Rhoden led the Pirates (8-1) with 18 points. Alexis Yetna scored 12 points and took 11 rebounds, and Myles Cale and Aiken added 10 points each. Tyrese Samuel also grabbed 11 rebounds for Seton Hall.

The Longhorns' Tre Mitchell led all scorers with a season-high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Allen added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Texas (6-2) while Marcus Carr had 10 points.

The Pirates led by as many as eight points in the early going. Texas steadied itself and swept to a 28-23 lead by making nine consecutive shots as part of a 7-0 run that was capped with a layup by Allen at the 6:39 mark.

The Longhorns were up 37-32 after Carr's stepback jumper with 57 seconds remaining but Seton Hall responded, scoring the final five points of the half and tying the score at 37 on Yetna's 3-pointer before the buzzer.

Mitchell led all scorers with 13 points at the half. Yetna paced the Pirates with 12 points at halftime. Seton Hall shot 41.9 percent in the half compared to the Longhorns' 55.6 percent.

The Pirates used a 7-0 run over a two-minute stretch to move from three points down to a 50-46 edge at the 13:17 mark of the second half.
