Redblacks 44, Roughriders 41: Dominique Davis threw for a career-high 354 yards and three touchdowns as Ottawa downed visiting Saskatchewan for the fourth consecutive time.
Davis completed 30-of-39 passes and added another 43 yards on ground for the Redblacks, who improved to 2-0 this season. Dominique Rhymes hauled in 11 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown while R.J. Harris made five catches for 51 yards and a score for Ottawa, which finished with 428 yards from scrimmage.
Cody Fajardo was 27-of-34 for 360 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also running for a score in his first career start for the Roughriders, who have dropped each of their first two games in 2019. Shaq Evans caught seven passes for 103 yards and a TD while Marcus Thigpen accounted for 76 total yards and two touchdowns for Saskatchewan, which committed nine penalties for 105 yards.
Thigpen caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Fajardo to open the scoring before Davis threw scoring strikes to Rhymes (20 yards), J.C. Beaulieu (23) and Harris (7) to help put Ottawa on top 25-10 following three successful two-point conversions. William Powell bounced outside for a 9-yard touchdown to close the gap before Lewis Ward converted field goals of 30 and 45 yards to put the Redblacks in front 31-17, but Fajardo hit Evans for a 44-yard TD with four seconds left in the second quarter to pull the Roughriders within seven at intermission.
Ward connected on a 28-yard field goal - his third of the second half - to restore Ottawa's 14-point cushion before Thigpen rushed for a 6-yard TD to pull Saskatchewan within 41-33 following a missed extra point with 4:41 remaining in the fourth quarter. Ward kicked his sixth field goal with 1:41 remaining in the fourth quarter to make it a two-score game, but the Roughriders refused to go away as Fajardo scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 26 seconds to go before Brad Sinopoli secured the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory for Ottawa
