Roughriders 27, Lions 19: Cody Fajardo threw for 224 yards and a touchdown as visiting Saskatchewan held off a late rally by BC to take sole possession of first place in the West Division.
Fajardo was 21-of-27 while William Powell rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown for the Roughriders (11-5), who have won 10 of their last 12 games. Naaman Roosevelt hauled in seven passes for 106 yards and Kyran Moore caught a scoring pass for Saskatchewan, which is seeking its first division title in 10 years.
Danny O'Brien completed 16-of-24 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in his first career start for the Lions (5-12), who have dropped six straight meetings with the Roughriders. Bryan Burnham finished with three receptions for 72 yards and a TD for BC, which fell to 0-9 against West Division rivals this season.
Sergio Castillo kicked three field goals (50, 43, 30 yards) to help put the Lions on top 9-3 before Powell's 1-yard touchdown run capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive to level the score after a missed extra point. Mike Edem sacked O'Brien and Makana Henry recovered the fumble to set up Brett Lauther's 16-yard field goal with six seconds left in the second quarter, which gave Saskatchewan a 12-9 halftime lead.
Fajardo fired a 9-yard scoring strike to Moore and Lauther converted kicks from 28 and 22 yards as Saskatchewan pulled ahead 27-9 early in the fourth quarter. Castillo made no mistake from 49 yards out and Burnham caught a 30-yard touchdown pass as BC closed the gap to eight points with 1:32 left, but Elie Bouka picked off a pass from O'Brien with 35 seconds remaining to preserve the victory for the Roughriders.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Saskatchewan has 24 rushing touchdowns this season, which is two shy of matching the franchise record set in 2003. … BC was without QB Mike Reilly, who underwent season-ending wrist surgery earlier in the week. … Moore has caught a touchdown pass in each of the three wins against the Lions this season. … Powell has accounted for 14 total touchdowns, which is the most by a Saskatchewan non-quarterback since Weston Dressler achieved the feat in 2012.
