Antti Niemi turned aside 24 shots for his second shutout of the season as the visiting San Jose Sharks blanked the Winnipeg Jets 2-0 on Thursday night.
Logan Couture and Brad Winchester scored goals to power the Pacific Division-leading Sharks to their fifth win in six games and drop the Jets to their fourth loss in the last five.
Niemi recorded his 15th career shutout to help San Jose improve to 9-1-2 in its last 12 games.
Couture supplied the only goal Niemi would need with his team-leading 18th tally at 13:36 of the second period.
Defenseman Brent Burns set up the score with a great individual effort, rushing down the left wing and backhanding a pass to an onrushing Couture, who whipped a shot past Ondrej Pavelec.
That was a bad omen for the Jets, who fell to 0-14-2 when trailing after two periods this season.
Winchester scored 2 1/2 minutes into the third period to double the lead for the Sharks, who improved to 10-1-1 with two ties in the last 14 meetings against the Jets franchise.
