MAPLE LEAFS 3, LIGHTNING 2 (OT): Defenseman Dion Phaneuf knocked home a rebound of a Phil Kessel shot that hit the backboards at 4:01 of overtime as Toronto completed a four-game sweep of visiting Tampa Bay.

Defenseman Jake Gardiner, who also had an assist, tied the game 2-2 with 2:55 left in regulation when his centering pass went into the net off Lightning forward Brett Connolly's stick.

Steven Stamkos knocked in a feed by defenseman Bruno Gervais for his league-leading 59th goal 8:48 into the third period to give Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead. Stamkos tied Pavel Bure (2000-01) for the second-most goals in a season since 1995-96. Alex Ovechkin scored 65 in 2007-08.

Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens made 35 saves for the victory.

Martin St. Louis gave Tampa Bay the lead 5:49 into the game with his 25th goal, when defenseman Brian Lee’s pass went in off his skate. Toronto answered just 43 seconds later, when Tim Connolly scored his sixth goal and 31st point in 34 games against the Lightning.

The Lightning outshot the Leafs 17-5 in the second period, but Scrivens turned aside every shot he faced to keep the game tied 1-1 going into the third.

Toronto was not called for a penalty. Tampa Bay killed two Leafs power plays.

GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Louis, who also had an assist, has scored at least 25 goals in nine straight seasons. …Forward Adam Hall returned to the lineup for Tampa Bay after missing the last nine games with an upper-body injury. …Toronto finished 18-16-7 at home.
