Oilers 2, Coyotes 1 (OT): Rookie Nail Yakupov scored his fourth goal of the season on a power play 3:52 into overtime as visiting Edmonton defeated Phoenix for the first time in six games.

With Antoine Vermette in the penalty box for high-sticking, Yakupov batted a rebound out of mid-air and past Chad Johnson after Taylor Hall unloaded a wrist shot from the high slot. Lennart Petrell scored in regulation and Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves for the Oilers.

Dubnyk was 19 seconds away from his first shutout of the season when Nick Johnson scored his second goal in as many games on the power play to send the game to overtime. Chad Johnson, who recorded a shutout in his Coyotes debut on Monday, stopped 19 shots.

Petrell opened the scoring with his first of the season less than five minutes into the first period. Ryan Smyth collected the puck behind the net and tried to stuff it past Chad Johnson, who poked it right to Petrell for the backhanded finish.

Edmonton hung on to the one-goal lead for the next 54 minutes, but Phoenix outshot the Oilers 10-4 in the third period and captain Shane Doan drew an interference penalty on Sam Gagner, which led to Nick Johnson’s tying goal.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall leads the Oilers with eight points, four of them on the power play. … Coyotes D Derek Morris, who leads the team with 24 hits, exchanged punches with Edmonton D Ryan Whitney after Yakupov’s winning goal. Both Whitney and Morris received roughing minors. … Edmonton was 1-for-4 with the man advantage and has 11 goals on 32 opportunities this season.
