Josh Bailey was the only player to score in a shootout Thursday, giving the New York Islanders a 3-2 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bailey, the third Islanders shooter, lofted a backhander over Penguins goaltender Matt Murray.

New York goaltender Thomas Greiss then stopped Kris Letang to seal it.

Bailey and Anders Lee scored in regulation for the Islanders, who have won four straight. They swept a home-and-home series with Pittsburgh, also winning Tuesday.

Greiss finished with 29 saves in regulation and overtime.

Dominik Simon and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins, with Malkin tying it 2-2 in the third. Pittsburgh's 0-1-1 showing in the two games against the Islanders followed a four-game winning streak.

Murray stopped 24 of 26 shots in regulation and overtime.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period.

During a power play, Simon sped to the crease and, on a rebound of a Jake Guentzel shot, chipped the puck between the legs of Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk and past Greiss at 6:20.

New York tied it at 14:46 of the second.

As a Penguins five-on-three power play was ending, Bailey exited the penalty box with speed and took a pass off the boards from Casey Cizikas for a breakaway. He moved in from the right wing and slipped the puck under Murray's pads for a shorthanded goal.

Pittsburgh controlled play for several minutes early in the third, but New York got the tie-breaker.

Thomas Hickey sent the puck toward the crease from the left half-wall, and it went in off Lee's right skate at 10:11 for a 2-1 lead.

Malkin answered at 12:02 to extend his point streak to nine games. On a power play, his one-timer from the right dot deflected down onto the ice when it hit an Islanders player's stick and skipped under Greiss to make it 2-2.

Malkin, the NHL's second star of the month for October, picked up his seventh goal and 20th point in his 11th game.
