David Pastrnak scored his third career hat trick and added an assist, Patrice Bergeron had one goal and two assists, and the Boston Bruins defeated the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 Saturday night.

Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak, starting after Tuukka Rask took a leave of absence Friday, made 40 saves. Joakim Nordstrom also scored for the Bruins, and Brad Marchand added two assists.

John Tavares scored for the Maple Leafs, who had a three-game winning streak end. Toronto goaltender Garret Sparks, starting for Frederik Andersen who played Friday, stopped 29 shots.

The Maple Leafs dominated early, holding a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal through the game's first 10 minutes.

The Bruins, however, scored on their sixth shot on goal at 16:12 of the first period, with Bergeron notching his ninth of the season, a tip-in on Pastrnak's pass.

The Maple Leafs had a 20-6 edge in shots on goal in the first period.

Boston led 2-0 after Bergeron set up Pastrnak at 5:46 of the second period with a cross-ice pass from the right circle. Pastrnak blasted the shot off one knee from the left circle before falling on his back. Matt Grzelcyk also assisted.

Pastrnak made it 3-0 from the edge of the crease at 10:34 of the second period on a power play, nudging home Marchand's pass for his second goal of the game. Bergeron started the play with his pass to Marchand. Martin Marincin was in the box for holding.

Tavares scored his 10th of the season at 19:30 of the second, two seconds after a roughing penalty to Boston's Brandon Carlo had expired. Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly assisted.

Halak made a big save on Tavares, who was alone in the slot, nearing the 10-minute mark of the third period.

The Maple Leafs kept up the pressure, but Kasperi Kapanen blunted the momentum when he took a four-minute penalty for high sticking at 11:28.

The Bruins took advantage. Pastrnak scored his 15th of the season on a return pass from Marchand at 14:04, and Nordstrom scored his third this season 26 seconds later.
